Replica gun used to commit string of robberies
A Toronto teen faces numerous charges after being arrested in connection with various robberies at Sherbourne subway station.
An 18-year-old man, who can not be named because the crimes occurred when he was 17, was apprehended by 51 Division’s street crime unit, with assistance from the transit patrol unit and police dog services near Sherbourne station on Sept. 22.
The teen was in possession of a replica semi-automatic pistol and stolen property. He now faces 11 charges in total, three each for robbery while armed with a firearm and using an imitation firearm to commit an indictable offence, two counts of threatening death and one count each for assault with a weapon, weapons dangerous and possession of property obtained by crime.
Police say the teen’s arrest was in relation to robberies as recent as Sept. 21 and Aug. 31. In both cases, police allege he would approach a woman who was leaving Sherbourne station at 2 a.m., pull out the replica pistol and demand the victim’s purse and cellphone.
The teen was scheduled to appear in court at Old City Hall Sept. 23.
