Eglinton-Lawrence MPP Mike Colle, Ward 15 incumbent councillor Josh Colle and outgoing Ward 16 councillor Karen Stintz are endorsing school trustee candidate Jennifer Arp in Ward 8, and mayoral frontrunner John Tory is endorsing Christin Carmichael Greb and Jon Burnside for council in Ward 16 and Ward 26 respectively.

A flurry of endorsements has dotted the midtown landscape leading up to the Oct. 27 municipal election.

MPP Colle called the Town Crier Monday afternoon to announce his endorsement of “front-line parent” Arp, as the successor to outgoing trustee Howard Goodman in Ward 8. Arp is up against four others, including Aaron Grinhaus, a tax lawyer who was recently endorsed by Goodman.

Colle says he’s supporting Arp because of her work as head of the parent council at Joyce Public School and in fighting the TDSB proposal to sever the property at Bannockburn School and sell off the greenspace.

“She doesn’t just show up at election time — she’s been there in the trenches with teachers and parents,” he said. “We need someone like her [at the TDSB] now more than ever.”

Tory said Carmichael-Greb would make “a strong city councillor,” and he called Burnside “a champion of the neighbourhoods of Ward 26.”

Carmichael Greb is in a heated race with 16 total candidates looking to succeed Stintz, who is not seeking re-election. She resigned her post as TTC chair to make a run for mayor, but dropped out of the race in August. Carmichael Greb is the daughter of Don Valley West MP John Carmichael. She has also been endorsed by Conservative MPs Peter Kent and Lisa Raitt.

Burnside is also in a tight race, running for the second time against incumbent councillor John Parker, who beat Burnside by 415 votes in 2010.

Another council candidate in Ward 16, Sean Conacher, received an endorsement from former Prime Minister John Turner on Friday. Conacher tweeted a snapshot of a signed letter from Turner making the endorsement.

Turner, who has known Conacher for more than 30 years, was Canada’s 17th prime minister and served for two and a half months in 1984, after being appointed as interim leader between Pierre Trudeau and Brian Mulroney.

John Turner. Does he even know where Ward 16 is, like what city of which country. Wow, what a feather in your cap. Any more goose eggs?
