Famous designer to put stamp on ‘iconic’ midtown building
Karl Lagerfeld to design lobby spaces for Art Shoppe Lofts + Condos

The lobby of a midtown condiminium with “art” in its name will, appropriately, be designed by a world-renowned style icon, its developer has revealed.
A mixed-use tower under construction at 2131 Yonge St., Art Shoppe Lofts + Condos will include two lobby spaces designed by German fashion designer, artist and photographer Karl Lagerfeld, co-developers CD Capital Developments and Freed Developments announced recently.
“My partner Todd Cowan and I approached the Art Shoppe Lofts + Condos with the goal to develop an iconic architectural landmark destination in the heart of Toronto,” Jordan Dermer, managing partner of CD Capital Developments, said in a statement. “With the involvement of Karl Lagerfeld we are doing just that.”
Best known in North America for his design work with denim manufacturer Diesel, the 81-year-old Lagerfeld has had a hand in a range of notable activities, from high fashion to illustrating children’s books to outfitting superstar singers like Kylie Minogue and Madonna. He has designed for global brands such as Chanel, H&M and Macy’s.
“Lobbies by Karl Lagerfeld” will mark his first interior design initiative in Canada.
