Man, 36, arrested after altercation in Bloor and Shaw area results in death, police report
A man has been arrested for murder after a woman was stabbed in the Christie Pits area on Wednesday.
Police allege two people were having a verbal altercation that turned physical and the man stabbed the woman.
Officers responded shortly after 5 p.m. to a call about a stabbing in the area of Bloor Street West and Shaw Street, according to a police news release this morning.
A woman was found unconscious and suffering from injuries. Despite the efforts of paramedics to revive her, the woman was pronounced dead on the scene.
A man was arrested and taken to hospital with injuries, police said.
The deceased has been identified as Tigist Takle, 31, of Toronto.
Other media have reported she worked at a restaurant and bar on Bloor Street West where the incident occurred.
Samuel Girmatsion, 36, of Toronto, was charged with first-degree murder.
He is scheduled to appear in court on Nov. 19 via video.
