Forest Hill CI not in danger of closing
Despite being on the Toronto District School Board’s list of schools possibly facing closure, Forest Hill Collegiate is not at risk of closing, says trustee Shelley Laskin.
According to the St. Paul’s Ward 11 trustee, only 18 of the 70 schools under review by the TDSB are being considered for closure. Forest Hill Collegiate would be among the 52 schools whose catchment areas would need to be redrawn to bring in students who had attended a nearby school that was closing.
The Eglinton Avenue West and Bathurst Street area school’s borders may be redrawn to take some students in the event Vaughan Road Academy is closed, she said.
“It’s [on the list] because, hypothetically, should one look at closing and moving programs from Vaughan Road Academy, then the boundaries for the catchment area for people going to Forest Hill Collegiate would be affected,” she said.
Forest Hill Collegiate would not be the only area school affected if Vaughan Road Academy were to close. John Polanyi Collegiate in Lawrence Heights, Oakwood Collegiate near St. Clair Avenue West and Dufferin Street, York Memorial Collegiate at Elginton Avenue West and Keele Street, and George Harvey Collegiate on Keele Street and Eglinton Avneue West would also feel the impact.
