Hepatitis A identified in North York restaurant worker

Public health officials are encouraging anyone who dined at Sierra Grill in North York on Jan. 23 to get a Hepatitis A vaccine after the virus was identified in a restaurant worker.

Though the risk of infection is low, city officials said patrons who consumed food at the Bayview and Sheppard restaurant on Sunday, January 23 may have been exposed to the Hepatitis A virus, and should get a vaccine.

To be effective, the vaccine must be given within 14 days of potential exposure.

Toronto Public Health will hold three clinics for anyone who ate at the Sierra Grill on Jan. 23.

The vaccine is free.

All clinics will be held in the North York Memorial Hall, 5110 Yonge St., lower level at the following times:

Thurs., Jan. 27, Gold Room, 4-8 p.m.

Fri., Jan. 28, Gold Room, 4-8 p.m.

Sat., Jan. 29, Burgundy Room, 10 a.m. – 2 p.m.

Anyone who is unable to attend one of these clinics can call 416-338-7600, and staff will be available to answer questions about Hepatitis A and access to vaccine.
