Here’s the scoop: Ed’s ice cream and gelato stores reopening

Beaches among locations open for takeout now, Leslieville to follow on May 7

As summer approaches (despite rumours it’s been cancelled), ice cream lovers are salivating at the news of Ed’s Real Scoop reopening.

Due to the coronavirus pandemic, on March 17 the store had to close its locations on March 17, including its popular Beaches and Leslieville locations on Queen Street East and its Roncesvalles Avenue store.

Local ice cream lovers were devastated at the news, customer service manager Niamh Sranz said. “When we shut down everyone was very understanding but very vocal in their disappointment.”

Ed’s Real Scoop has been around for 20 years providing treats from yummy ice cream to  creamy frozen yogurt.

However, after a torturous month and a half,  Ed’s has “hopped on the takeout train,” with cookies and cream, Tahitian vanilla bean, and fan favourite burnt marshmallow ice cream — along with some limited surprise options like Beach fudge brownie ice cream and raspberry white chocolate ice cream.

Ice cream lovers couldn’t be happier with the news of their favourite store reopening.

Monica Salazar, who has been frequenting the Roncesvalles shop for two years now, says she is very happy to get her fix of her favourite flavour once again.

“Thank God, I can order burnt marshmallow,” Slazar said. “When I was pregnant that was my number one craving. I had to have it. Even now, postpartum, I dream of it.

Ed’s has reopened its Beaches, Roncesvalles and Mimico locations with limited hours, Thursday to Sunday from 2 to 7 p.m., and plans to reopen the Leslieville location May 7.

Deliveries will be done via Uber Eats. Leading up to the opening, the store had been taking pre-orders via email with 21 flavours to choose from and had over 150 orders lined up.

“The orders varied between two and 17 pints for each order,” Sranz said.

“It’s a lot of work and we are working every single day with people in but we are pretty confident we can keep up,” she said.”We’re just happy to have something to do”

The menu ranges each week with prices set at one pint for $9.50, two pints for $18, a pack of plain cones for $1.50 and pack of sugar cones for $2.
