Man charged in officer's death

[attach]3352[/attach]Toronto police have charged Richard Esber Kachkar, 44, of no fixed address with first degree murder in conjunction with the death of Sergeant Ryan Russell.

Russell was killed on Jan. 12 after trying to stop the stolen snowplow which Kachkar had been driving.

Kachkar was finally apprehended after being shot by police on Keele Street near Humberside Avenue. According to the province’s Special Investigations Unit that is looking into the shooting, Kachkar is recovering in the Intensive Care Unit at St. Michael’s Hospital.

In addition to the murder charge, Kachkar is also facing two counts of attempted murder.
