Ring belonging to Philip Samis
STOLEN HISTORY: Police say this ring, commemorating the Toronto Maple Leafs’ 1948 Stanley Cup victory and belonging to Philip Samis, was stolen during a break and enter March 5 in the Bedford Park area.

A Stanley Cup ring belonging to Toronto Maple Leaf Philip Samis and commemorating the team’s championship victory in the 1947-48 season has been stolen, police say.

Police said the ring was taken during a break and enter at a home near Yonge Street and Deloraine Avenue on March 5.

The ring, described by police as a family heirloom, is inscribed on the inside with the name Philip Samis.

Police say other jewellery items and property were also taken.

Samis played professional hockey between 1947 and 1953. He spent most of his career in the AHL, playing only seven games in the NHL, all with the Maple Leafs. Five of those games were in the 1947-48 playoffs, in which he registered one assist, his only career NHL point.
