Married or buried?
The North York Civic Centre wedding chapel is looking more like a final resting place than one for marital unions, says Howard Moscoe.
The Ward 15 councillor has put forth a motion to community council to have the chapel revamped, saying in a letter that while $967,000 is being spent to renovate the Toronto City Hall wedding chapel, only “superficial maintenance has been done” on the North York chapel of late.
“Frankly, it looks more like a place to get buried than a place to get married (perhaps some don’t see the distinction),” reads the tongue-in-cheek recommendation, submitted to community council.
He said the chapel carpeting should be replaced, and something should be done to “make it less funereal”.

The North York Civic Centre has been suffering from a lack of maintenance for awhile, the councillor said in an interview with the Town Crier.
“At one point, I had the property standards department come in … and issue work orders against city hall,” said Moscoe, who chairs the licensing and standards committee.
It prompted a whole cleanup of the civic centre, Moscoe added.
