Midtown shooting claims man’s life

Police seek two following shooting in broad daylight behind Minto Towers

A brazen daylight shooting has left one man dead near Yonge and Eglinton.

The victim in the midtown shooting, identified as 34-year-old Sukhvir Deo, was killed as he sat in his vehicle behind one of the Minto Towers on Cowbell Lane at about 2:50 p.m. yesterday. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The victim was in a white Range Rover when two men wearing construction vests approached and opened fire. About 16 shell casings where recovered from the scene.

Police believe the two men — one of them wearing a green construction vest and the other an orange vest — are “armed and dangerous.” They were last seen fleeing in a dark vehicle.

Superintendent Reuben Stroble of 53 Division expressed shock, saying the area is “a very quiet neighbourhood.”

“It’s a surprise,” he said. “Especially at this time of day.”

People working in the area said they heard multiple gunshots, but believed the sound was from one of the many construction sites in the area.

This is not the first vicious attack to occur on Cowbell Lane. A man suffered serious injuries after being stabbed multiple times in the alleyway last August.

The victim in the midtown shooting has not yet been identified. This is the 33rd homicide in Toronto this year.
