Mortar shell closes Leaside fire station
A mortar shell from the Second World War closed down the Toronto Fire Station on McRae Drive near Laird Drive.
The relic, which was found in Leaside by a homeowner who was digging through his backyard, was brought to local station 321 just after 1 p.m. Saturday.
As a precaution, the station was closed down while the Chemical Biological Radiological Nuclear unit of Toronto Police investigated.
By late afternoon the station was functioning normally again.
