As of 10:27, Toronto–Danforth’s NDP incumbent has garnered 53.2 percent of the vote compared with his nearest challenger Liberal Marisa Sterling who has 31.0 percent. Progressive Conservative Rita Jethi is a distant third with 9.7 percent.
The NDP have held this riding since it was created in 1999, first with Marilyn Churley and then by Tabuns since 2006. Until his recent death, this constituency was represented on the federal level by Jack Layton who took over 60 percent of the popular vote in May’s election.
