Police hunt suspected arsonist in Eglinton Avenue West fire

Surveillance footage allegedly shows man lighting garbage

Police are searching for a suspect who they say lit cardboard boxes and garbage bags on fire in the early morning hours of Oct. 3 in front of an Eglinton Avenue West pharmacy.

Surveillance footage shows a man loitering in front of the Pharmasave building at 491 Eglinton Ave. West just after 2:40 a.m., police said. The man can be seen bending down, setting the garbage bags on fire, then walking from the scene westbound on Eglinton Avenue. A screen capture from the surveillance video was released.

Police describe the man as white, 20–30 years old with a medium build and facial hair. He was wearing jeans and a dark jacket, and was carrying a black backpack.
