Power outage hits midtown

[UPDATED] Power was restored to the midtown Toronto area by about 3:30 this afternoon, following an hours-long blackout that began at 10:30 a.m. when transformer equipment failed at the Bridgman transformer station at MacPherson Avenue and Davenport Road.

The power outage blanketed the southern portion of midtown along Yonge Street, stretching from St. Clair Avenue to Bloor Street, on the east and west sides, as temperatures dipped below -20.

Businesses affected by the outage — including banks, drug stores and grocery stores — locked their doors.

The outage map on Toronto Hydro’s website did not indicate any outages.

Subway stations on Line 1 were affected, though trains continued to run.
