Refreshed playground at Charlotte Maher Parkette
Just in time for the warmer weather, Yonge and Eglinton’s youngest residents can now enjoy one of Toronto’s newest playgrounds, at Charlotte Maher Parkette at 550 Roehampton Ave.
Featuring two new climbing structures, including three new slides, the updated playground was unveiled during a May 9 ceremony led by Ward 22 councillor Josh Matlow.
“Our playgrounds and parks are where our community congregates,” Matlow said afterward. “There are so many issues that we debate at the city, but it’s clear to me that a top priority for our residents is projects like these, that contribute to the quality of life in our neighbourhood.”
Matlow said the former playground’s poor state of repair was brought to his attention by a group of parents led by resident Karen Kaye, who approached him in early 2013.
Later that year Matlow held a public meeting asking residents what they would like to see, then secured developers’ fees from the city to make the neighbourhood’s dream a reality. The new playground was constructed last year.
“I was very happy to support these wonderful moms who approached me to make it happen,” Matlow said.
