Skimming device found at Forest Hill ATM

Bank fraud was reported at a local ATM in the Bathurst Street and St. Clair Avenue West area by revealing a skimming device that was installed into the machine.

A police report states that on Nov. 14 police responded to a call from an individual who witnessed a piece of the ATM detaching off the machine, revealing a micro-video camera.

These devices are able to copy and record all information from the individual’s debit card, where the suspect can retrieve all its banking information to access the account. Skimming devices are well-disguised and are installed in seconds, police say.

Police are reminding the public to be vigilant when using ATMs and urge the public to report any suspicious activity to police 13 division at 416-808-1300 or anonymously to Crime Stoppers at 416-222-TIPS (8477).
