The appointment of Rev. Jefferson Mark Thompson, a 1979 graduate of St. Michael’s who currently serves as president of Detroit Catholic Central High School in Novi, Mich., was announced Nov. 22.

According to school communications director Michael De Pellegrin, Thompson will take over from acting president and principal Terry Sheridan at the end of the current school year, and will serve a five-year term.

Both St. Mike’s and Detroit Catholic Central schools are run by the Basilian Fathers, a community of priests and students based in five countries, including Canada.

Born in India, Rev. Thompson moved with his family to Toronto in 1973, and enrolled in St. Mike’s as a Grade 7 student. He returned to the school to teach philosophy, theology, English and French between 2002 and 2005.

Rev. Thompson told the Town Crier he looks forward to “rejoining and working amidst the St. Michael’s family, to continue to build together our school that we know so well and love so much.”
