Stabbing at Marlee Mini Mart

A woman was rushed to hospital with no vital signs after she was stabbed in the stomach outside of a Mini Mart on Marlee Avenue July 8.

The victim was shopping in the convenience store when a man approached her and demanded money, according to witness Dave Huha.

She refused and tried to get away from him.

“She came around the front of the building and my wife was coming out,” Huha said. “That’s when my wife saw the guy stab her.”

Huha said he found his wife crying after seeing what happened, while two police officers were performing CPR on the victim.

The victim was taken to Sunnybrook Hospital. Police on the scene did not release her name or age. Officers said a man was taken into custody two blocks away from the scene. No charges were laid yet.

“The incident is still under investigation,” said a police officer.

Incidents like this do not happen often in the neighbourhood, Huha said, but when they do it’s like a wake-up call.

“I know we don’t need this in our neighbourhood,” he said. “We’ve got to put a stop to it.”
