Students can use loyalty points to pay down OSAP

A program developed by midtown entrepreneur Suzanne Tyson that lets students use Aeroplan miles to pay for their education can now be used by graduates too.

As of June 17, Higher Ed Points has teamed up with the Ontario Student Assistance Program, allowing past and present Ontario students to use Aeroplan miles to pay off their student loans.

“The original concept behind Higher Ed Points was to have students and grads use the program to pay down their student loans,” said Tyson, who started pursuing a partnership with OSAP soon after founding the program.

A similar agreement was finalized with the Alberta government in March.

Operating with its usual exchange rate, Higher Ed Points allows customers to use 35,000 Aeroplan miles to pay down $250 from an OSAP loan.

“The sooner students and graduates can pay down those debts, the sooner they can use their funds for other priorities,” Tyson commented.
