Suspect arrested in 2010 shooting

Christopher Alexander was nabbed in Calgary in connection with Fairview Mall incident

Calgary police have arrested a man wanted in connection with a shooting at Fairview Mall last September.

On Feb. 4, 27 year old Christopher Alexander was arrested and held by police before being flown back to Toronto on Feb. 11 to answer to his charges.

Police say that on Sept. 13, 2010 Alexander was in Fairview Mall, when a security officer allegedly witnessed him stealing. While attempting to arrest him, Alexander allegedly pointed a gun at the officer and fired, missing. He then took off, leaving the gun behind.

On the flight to Toronto, police allege that Alexander assaulted the two officers that were escorting him. Further, when Calgary Police caught up with Alexander they say he was in possession of another firearm.

Alexander has been charged with one count each of attempted murder, escape from lawful custody, theft under $5,000 and mischief under $5,000; two counts each of assault in an aircraft, assault of a peace officer and failing to comply with bail conditions; plus 15 other firearm- and ammunition-related charges.
