Two charged after police called to B&E in progress
A man and woman are facing six charges after being nabbed by store security who recognized them from an alleged previous theft.
Police say they responded to a theft-in-progress call at a store near Yonge Street and Broadway Avenue at about 12:30 p.m. on Dec. 13, where they quickly made the arrests. Employees of the store alerted police after recognizing the two from a previous date, when a laptop had been stolen.
Tibor Nagy, 42, and Erzsebet Virag, 36, have been charged with one count each of theft under $5,000, possession of proceeds of crime, and possession over $5,000.
Police recovered dozens of items they believe are stolen, but don’t know if they were stolen from other stores, residences, or during distraction thefts. Police also said both accused are known to them.
Photographs of the recovered items, which include rings, watches, necklaces, bracelets and gold chains, are at 53 Division, 75 Eglinton Ave. West.
