Youth faces explosives charges
A youth is facing explosives charges following what started as a threatening death investigation by Toronto Police.
According to a police report, a 17-year-old male was being investigated on March 11 at his home in the Leslie Street and Finch Avenue East area for what police say was an investigation into a death threat.
Upon further investigation at the residence, police found potassium nitrate, fertilizer, detonators, nails and a pipe bomb.
Police then charged the boy with make or possess explosives, and threatening bodily harm.
Due to his age, the accused can’t be named under the Youth Criminal Justice Act.
An Internet search of potassium nitrate finds it has multiple uses, including in fertilizer, as a food additive, as a rocket propellant, in toothpaste, in fireworks, and in gunpowder.
