Learning garden launched at Northern

Students at Northern Secondary School unveiled an edible learning garden on the grounds of the school on May 31.

Attending the launch were students, parents and staff, as well as city councillor Josh Matlow and representatives of the Whole Foods Market Leaside, which has helped fund the project.

The first phase of the project is for students to learn about growing organic vegetables using the square foot method as well as tending the garden, and preparing nutritious food from the produce.

They plan to share that knowledge with the wider local community.

The long-term goal is to grow enough produce to donate to Toronto families with food needs.
