Popular arts fair seeks artisans for anniversary event

The Danforth East Arts Fair is looking for artisans to exhibit in what has become a cultural highlight of the year for east-end residents.

This year the show on Sept. 15–16 is even more special because it’s the 10th anniversary, says Amanda Olson, a board member of the Danforth East Community Association that presents the event.

“It’s become one of the top arts fairs in the city,” Olson says.

The fair is one of several popular gatherings the association hosts throughout the year, she notes. “We have a lot of fun with family-friendly events.”

In addition to the selected artisans that fill East Lynn Park on Danforth Avenue, the arts fair features a kids tent, a variety of music and entertainment, and dancing demonstrations.

Arts and crafts of all genres of both traditional and contemporary forms are displayed and sold for $10 to thousands of dollars. The only common factor is that all work must be handmade by the artists — nothing mass-produced, Olson says.

Artisans can submit applications online including the $200 fee. For the best chance of being accepted, they are encouraged to apply by March 31. A jury reviews applicants to select exhibitors. Unsuccessful applicants will have the $200 fee refunded.

The event, running from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. for each of the two days, is free for visitors.
