Boy, 17, arrested for attempted murder near East York school

A 17-year-old boy has been arrested for attempted murder after a stabbing at a bus stop across the street from East York Collegiate on Feb. 28.

A boy, 16, was rushed to hospital with serious injuries from multiple stab wounds at Coxwell and Cosburn avenues that afternoon, police say.

The Toronto school board has confirmed to media that the injured boy was a student at the collegiate.

Witnesses to the incident reportedly came to the victim’s aid and two boys involved in the stabbing fled, police say.

A boy was arrested the same day. A second boy is still being sought by police.

A police press release said they responded to a radio call for a stabbing in the area at 3:17 p.m.

They allege two boys had come to the area in search of the 16-year-old and found him in the bus stop, where they repeatedly stabbed him, before being chased off by witnesses.

The 17-year-old boy in custody faces a charge of attempted murder and was to appear in court on Mar. 1.

Under the provisions of the Youth Criminal Justice Act, the accused may not be named as he is under 18.
