Green light for Forest Hill projects
Two new beautification projects in the Forest Hill area are slated for next spring.
Toronto city council voted in favour of motions brought by Ward 22 councillor Josh Matlow calling for greenery added to the Yonge Street and St. Clair Avenue area and refurbishing much of Oriole Parkway.
In the Yonge and St. Clair area, new tree planters will be put in and other yet-to-be-decided work will be done, at a combined cost of $200,000.
On Oriole Parkway, $315,000 will be used to refurbish the median that runs between Eglinton Avenue West and Imperial Street, and to beautify the eastern boulevard that abuts Upper Canada College, between Lonsdale Road and Kilbarry Road.
Both projects are being funded through Section 37 funds that came from the Imperial Plaza development at 111 St. Clair Ave. West.
Matlow says the projects are something the community has been asking about for some time.
“The reason I’m doing these two projects is I’ve been hearing constantly from residents that the planters on Yonge Street are in disrepair,” he said. “The main streets in Deer Park don’t reflect the beauty of the neighbourhood and I want to do something to improve that.”
