Man killed by streetcar near Yonge and St. Clair

An elderly man is dead after being struck by a streetcar on St. Clair Avenue West, near Deer Park Crescent west of Yonge Street.

The 79-year-old was struck shortly after 8 p.m. on Sept. 18 and was reported to have no vital signs when paramedics arrived. He was pronounced dead at hospital.

Streetcar service was shut down for several hours between St. Clair and St. Clair West stations while police investigated. The TTC tweeted that the stretch of St. Clair Avenue West had reopened at 12:38 a.m.

This is the second pedestrian fatality in the same area in less than a year.

An 81-year-old woman was also killed by a streetcar just east of Deer Park Crescent on Nov. 15 last year as she was crossing from the north side to the south side midblock.

The recent pedestrian death is Toronto’s 28th fatal collision of the year.
