Man shot dead in housing complex

Homicide detectives investigating the Sept. 2 fatal shooting of a man in a Riverdale housing complex are trying to determine the whereabouts of the victim hours before his death.

Around 12:53 a.m. police were called to a courtyard near Boultbee Ave. and Blake St., where they found a 30-year-old man with gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The victim has been identified as Toronto resident Jamie Hull, also known as J. At the time of his death he was wanted by police for allegedly making death threats.

Detective Sergeant Terry Browne said Hull was not a resident of the area, so police want to known why he was there that night.

“Did someone ask him to meet them there, did he go there on his own and this occurred — I really don’t know,” Browne said.

Police would like to speak with anyone who was with Hull on Sept. 1 or any eyewitnesses who have not come forward.
Browne said it was residents who called police after hearing the sounds of gunshots.

“There’s residents who obviously heard things and responded to what they heard, but I don’t have an eyewitness that was standing right there that’s come forward at this point,” he said.

Browne said Hull was found by officers in a common courtyard backed onto by a series of town homes. An autopsy later revealed Hull died from a penetrating gunshot wound to the back.
