April 4: 10 years of giving blood marked at Northlea

School hosts blood donor clinic on anniversary

Leaside will celebrate 10 years of giving blood with a clinic in the North Gym of Northlea Elementary and Middle School, 305 Rumsey Rd., on April 4.

The history of the clinic goes back to 2002 when two local children were diagnosed with leukemia. When they were a bit older they were gratified to learn their lives had been saved by blood from blood donors, and they asked people to make donations. The first such clinic was organized by a group of mothers.

You can make an appointment to give blood by calling 1-8882-DONATE (1-888-236-6283) or signing up online. Refreshments are provided.
