THINGS TO DO

Starting Sept. 12: See the cloth that changed the world

Visitors are invited to see history unfold through India’s painted and printed cottons in an original exhibition at the Royal Ontario Museum.

For the first time in 50 years, the ROM’s world-renowned collection of Indian chintz will be presented to the public. “The Cloth that Changed the World: India’s Painted and Printed Cottons” celebrates the technical mastery, creativity, and far-reaching influence of India’s painted and printed textiles, from the early origins of dyeing and weaving, to the artisans working today.

Running from Sept. 12 through to fall 2021, the exhibition presents 20 recognized masterworks alongside 10 new acquisitions and rare loans from prestigious international collections.

The exhibition was originally set to open in April but was put on hold while the Museum was closed due to COVID-19.

The ROM is open Wednesdays to Sundays, 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. It is located at 100 Queen’s Park on the corner of Bloor Street West.

Adult admission is $23 with discounts for children, students and seniors.

Visitors must book timed tickets online in advance of their visit. The ROM is limiting the number of visitors in gallery spaces to help ensure physical distancing is maintained.  They are also required to wear face masks.
