These sweet designer treats are sure to tickle your taste buds — and your funny bone.

Monica Krasny has opened a new boutique-style bakery in North Toronto that combines her love of designer duds with a passion for baked goodies. Giving her treats witty names that play on famous fashion designers, Krasny aims to capture the attention of new customers.

The Designer Cookie, already having an online presence, now offers a total in-store experience, including cookies of your choice baked fresh in less than two minutes, a coffee bar and quaint seating area. Specializing in edible printed products that transform images into icing, the company provides personalized treats for major events, corporate parties, weddings and more.

Though she’s been selling online for the past seven years, Krasny is proud to be opening her first storefront location. Leaving her job in the communications field, she is finally dedicating herself full time to the bakery she loves.

“We’ve had great success online,” she says. “So I think the store will do really well.”

Krasny has been baking since childhood, learning her skills from a grandmother who shared her love of making sweet treats. Now, she and her husband hope that her passion for baking – and some catchy product names – will win the hearts of new customers.

Giving local residents a sneak peek on Halloween stirred up interest in the new cookie, cake and cupcake joint even before its official opening on November 20.

“We had lots of people come in,” Krasny says. “It’s been a lot of hard work, but we’re really excited about the future.”
