Never a dull moment
[attach]6427[/attach]When chef Adisa Glasgow walked into 3030 Dundas West exclaiming he had a bag of tongues to be used to cook a dinner special, manager Jeff Kelly was skeptical.
“I was like, ‘Do you really think that’s going to sell?’ and the spicy tongue burrito that night sold out,” Kelly says from the newly opened restaurant, bar and concert venue. “It’s exciting to see the menus because he’s putting out something new and fresh every Tuesday.”
Located in the Junction at 3030 Dundas Street West and High Park Avenue, 3030 Dundas West hosts weekly events such as a residency with local musicians Young Running and trivia on Wednesdays nights and analog Tuesdays, featuring board games, crafts, a live-to-air radio broadcast and antique typewriters patrons can use to type old-fashioned letters.
The name has also proved popular among people ringing in their 30th birthdays, he says.
“We have tables that we’ve done ourselves from clippings of old newspapers and we call them first date tables because they’re conversation starters,” he says. “If they have nothing to say they can be like ‘Let’s read this’ or ‘Let’s grab a board game’ or ‘Let’s go sample nine different beers at the back bar because I haven’t heard of any of them.’ ”
Kelly and owners Jameson Kelly and Tina Sholidas — his brother and sister-in-law — collect their weekly menus, old tap handles from the beer they’ve featured, and posters for past concerts put on by booking manager Nathan Hunter to keep track of how they’re growing and improving. In addition to music, they also host live theatrical performances, readings and more.
“We’ve had people who have come in and said, ‘Oh my God, I had no idea you were here.’ ” he says. “We can’t expect to wow everybody but it’s nice when people come up to you and say, ‘wow, thank you.’ ”
