Taking midtown’s two great hamburger challenges

The mission was simple, the task not as much. We set out to see if Town Crier reporters could eat their way through two of the beefiest food challenges midtown Toronto has to offer.

Shawn Star headed to Stack Restaurant, on Yonge Street at Roslin Avenue, to tackle the Great Stack Challenge.

Although the clock counts down from a generous 30 minutes, contestants have the daunting task of polishing off two one-pound burgers that come complete with cheese, bacon and caramelized onions, a pound of fries and any milkshake on the menu.

The prize for completion? A t-shirt and no bill. And you are showcased on Stack’s Facebook page whether you succeed or fail.

To be victorious contestants have to chow down a burger comprised of six patties, six cheese slices, triple bacon and caramelized onions stacked on three grilled cheese sandwiches, as well as a specialty shake (meaning no simple vanilla, chocolate or strawberry) within six minutes.

Contestants who complete the task get their photo displayed in-store on the wall of fame — versus the failures who land on the wall of shame — and a t-shirt.

However, unlike Stack’s deal, only those who beat the current best time get their meal for free.
