$47K in funding secured for Midtown Yonge BIA

The newly minted Midtown Yonge BIA now has an extra $47,500 to invest in streetscape improvements, thanks to Ward 22 councillor Josh Matlow.

The funds, which were derived from municipal fees related to construction at 2263–2287 Yonge St., were officially approved by city council in February and will hopefully be used for streetscape improvements, Matlow said.

“Nobody’s prescribing what the end results will look like — that will be done both through engaging merchants and with local residents,” he said. “But ultimately I’d like to see some improvements to the Midtown Yonge Street strip so that it’s more beautiful and engaging for local residents and visitors alike.”

Stretching nearly from Soudan Avenue in the north to Davisville Avenue in the south, the Midtown Yonge BIA was officially incorporated last year and has ambitious plans for 2016, including a streetscape project. Matlow is not certain when further plans regarding the new funding will be revealed, however.

Representatives from the Midtown Yonge BIA did not respond to interview requests for this story.
