Accused in stabbings found not criminally responsible

Woman escorted from scene
CORDONED OFF: A woman is escorted from the scene April 9, 2014.

A man who stabbed four coworkers at a Yonge and York Mills office last year as he was being fired has been found not criminally responsible.

Chuang Li, now 49, was suffering from mental illness at the time of the April 9, 2014 attack at 4110 Yonge St., and was reported to have been carrying knives with him long before the violent assault that hospitalized four employees of Ceridian Dayforce Corporation.

Justice Fergus O’Donnell reportedly said it was a “by a very narrow margin” that Li was being found not criminally responsible. Evidence given in court stated Li believed he was being watched an organization that was out to get him.

Li had been facing three counts of attempted murder, four counts of aggravated assault and four counts of assault with a weapon.

He has been in custody since the assault, and will reportedly go before the Ontario Review Board to determine where he receives treatment for mental illness and what level of security he will be kept in.
