ARECA to hold consultation meeting about LRT station
[attach]5720[/attach]ARECA attended the pre-hearing meeting at the OMB for the redevelopment of the St. Margaret’s Church site at Avenue Road and Burnaby Boulevard. We continue to represent the community with respect to the many planning issues surrounding this site. The TTC has acquired the Mac’s Milk property immediately to the south, which will become part of the Eglinton LRT line. The station will be an important asset to the nearby neighbourhoods and businesses. We are meeting to discuss the matter with the North York Community Planning Department and ARECA has convened a public meeting for April 2 at 7 p.m. in the North Toronto Memorial Community Centre. Representatives from all the parties involved have been invited. ARECA will present its ideas for consideration by the planning department, the TTC and owners of the St. Margaret’s Church site.
Discussions with the owners of the Premium Properties site on the corner of Eglinton and Duplex avenues continue. ARECA attended the pre-hearing session at the OMB and submitted its participant statement, which includes a plan to rejuvenate the public realm from North Toronto Collegiate to Marshall McLuhan Catholic Secondary has been embraced by the owner of Premium Properties. Once implemented, the plan would create a continuous street park along Roehampton Avenue, Orchard View Boulevard, through Eglinton Park and ending up at Elwood Boulevard and Avenue Road. Plans to improve the intersection of Orchard View Boulevard and Duplex Avenue are included.
Recent studies show significant public safety and traffic issues persist along Orchard View. We are hopeful sufficient funds will be generated to review and address these issues. As intensification in the official plan-designated growth centre continues, ARECA believes the neighbourhoods around it are deserving of this kind of upgrading and improvement. The closing of Orchard View Boulevard at Yonge Street will not happen this summer. ARECA hopes, should the project be revived in the future, that adequate community consultation and planning takes place beforehand.
