Bakeries are popping up faster than Pop Tarts in the Beach, where the [url=http://brickstreetbakery.ca/]Brick Street Bakery[/url] recently opened at 1969 Queen St. East. Brick Street started in the Distillery district and is known for its breads and pastries using natural organic ingredients. But insiders say it’s also known for its Cornish chicken and other deli sandwiches.

Further east Absolute Café at 2030 Queen St. East has just opened, serving fresh baked breads and pastries. Word on the street is the croissants are the best this side of France.

[url=http://www.wildearthbakery.ca]Wild Earth Bakery and Café[/url] at 2142 Queen St. East has also opened its doors. An organic, gluten and nut-free bakery, Wild Earth also offers goodies suitable for diabetics and those with lactose intolerances.

[url=http://www.myessentia.com]Essentia[/url] has just launched its first retail location at 2180 Queen St. East. Essentia is a Montreal based company that manufactures natural memory foam mattresses that are manufactured in Canada.

Movin’ on up

After 6.5 years on Queen St. East just west of Woodbine Ave. [url=http://www.threadslifestyle.com]Threads Lifestyle[/url], which specializes in travel and outdoor clothing, has closed its Queen location and moved to the Upper Beach area at 952 Kingston Rd. It’s a temporary location until the new and expanded space at 950 Kingston Rd. is completed. Owner Steven Cross expects the new facility to be open in March 2010.
