Joey opens at Don Mills

Hundreds of people crammed into the lounge area of the new Joey Don Mills Grill/Lounge for its official launch party Sept. 23.

The Vancouver-based company opened its first Ontario location in the Shops at Don Mills.

Executive chef Chris Mills was on hand during the launch party and gave a tour of the dining room lounge and kitchen area, showcasing among other things the restaurant’s innovative wine serving system, the Enomatic, which allows the restaurant to serve 24 wines by-the-glass while preserving freshness and preventing oxidation.

Mills, an Iron Chef Japan and Bocuse d’Or competitor who has received numerous awards and medals for his abilities, is a rising star in the Canadian culinary scene and is known for his globally inspired dishes.

The restaurant also features a glass wine room — essentially a refrigerated wall that looks into the chef area. As Mill put it that evening, chefs like to be seen.

Mill also brought guests to the resto’s rooftop as the sun was setting. Though not open now, by the time the summer rolls around the area will be converted to a rooftop patio featuring a full bar, cabana room, large screen TVs and booth seating.

Joey Don Mills has free valet parking and is located at 15 O’Neill Rd. at the southwest corner of the Town Square at the Shops at Don Mills. www.joeyrestaurants.com
