CITY BRIEFS: 33 Laird a heritage building?
[attach]7626[/attach]North York community council has asked the city to examine the property at 33 Laird Dr. in Leaside to see if it meets the requirements for a heritage designation.
The idea was brought to community council by Ward 26 councillor John Parker, who represents the area. The building, home to multiple businesses, sits on the southeast corner of Laird and Canvarco Road.
New Bayview townhouse plan
Residents of a North Toronto neighbourhood will be notified soon of a to-be-determined community meeting regarding the potential rezoning of land on the southeast corner of Bayview Avenue and Old Colony Road.
The proposal to redevelop the site, which currently has three homes on it, is to build 11 three-storey townhouses and two three-storey detached homes.
Still no decision on parking rules
Toronto and East York community council deferred for a second time a decision on disallowing parking on a Forest Hill street.
Parking is currently allowed on the north side of Montclair Avenue, from Spadina Road to its eastern end, between 7 a.m. and 6 p.m., Monday to Friday, but some residents have complained that it impedes two-way traffic flow during those 11 hours.
The current rules disallow parking between 7 a.m. and 10 a.m., and allow for one-hour parking between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m.
Councillor Josh Matlow deferred the item in January to allow residents of the street to reach a consensus on how parking should
be handled. On Feb. 25, he requested another month-long deferral.
The issue will now come up at an April 8 meeting.
Council overturns staff denial of coffee house request
The Second Cup coffee house in Forest Hill Village will be getting an expanded patio after Toronto and East York community council gave the go-ahead despite city staff having denied the initial permit.
Staff had conducted a poll in the immediate area but did not hear back from the minimum number required and thus denied the permit for the expanded patio, in accordance with city rules.
The owners of the coffee house, which sits on the northeast corner of Spadina and Lonsdale roads, appealed the denial and was granted the expanded patio.
