City tables "fair and affordable" offer to strikers

The city has revealed what it calls a “fair and affordable” offer it’s made to striking CUPE locals 79 and 416.

The offer is a four-year deal with pay increases of 1 percent in 2009, 1 percent in 2010, 2 percent in 2011 and 3 percent in 2012.

Also included is a proposal to convert the existing sick day system (currently allowing workers to bank their 18 annual sick days and cash them out when they retire of leave their jobs with the city) with a short-term disability plan that would cover the workers until long-term disability benefits kick in. Workers would be compensated for banked days using a formula available here.
