Doctor charged with sexual assault

A doctor at a Younge Street walk-in clinic is facing a sexual assault charge after allegedly assaulting a patient in early October.

Javad Peirovy is facing one count of sexual assault.

Police say the 40-year-old doctor was seeing a 26-year-old female patient who was in for a follow-up appointment at 1910 Yonge St. The woman claimed to be sexually assaulted during the appointment and contacted police.

This alleged assault happened on Oct. 7, exactly two weeks after a scheduled court appearance for the accused, where he is facing a similar charge for an incident in July. Police say Peirovy was working as a doctor at the Fast Lane Walk-in Clinic at 799 Bloor St. West when he sexually assaulted a 32-year-old woman who was being treated for an illness.

[url=http://www.mytowncrier.ca/couple-charged-after-gun-found-in-diaper-box.html]Constable Wendy Drummond[/url] spoke to why a potential repeat offender was allowed to continue working as a doctor while currently facing a sexual assault charge in the workplace.

“After the first assault there were conditions placed on him (by the court), but he was still allowed to practise,” she said. “(Whether he is still allowed to work) is up to the College of Physicians and Surgeons.”

Kathryn Clarke, senior communications coordinator for the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario (CPSO) confirmed there are currently no restrictions on Peirovy being allowed to practise, but she did say the organization is currently in the midst of an investigation.

“The investigation is not complete and the way that our legislation is written, we can not impose a restriction unless the doctor has been referred to the discipline committee,” she said. “We cannot impose a restriction unless a referral has been made, and that can’t occur until an investigation is complete (by CPSO).”

Clarke couldn’t put a date or time to when an investigation would be complete.

“It depends on the complexity and the number of people involved,” she said.

The was no answer at a phone number for the Fast Lane Walk-in Clinic on Oct. 26, and the person who answered at the Walk-In Medical Clinic on Yonge St. said no one there would want to talk to media about the case.

Police are saying that the accused works at several clinics around Toronto, and believe there may be more victims.
