Hoskins right prescription for Peace… in our time?
When Dr. Eric Hoskins arrived at the Sports Centre Cafe on St. Clair Avenue West on election night, his return to Queen’s Park already established, among his well wishers were notable political figures and one well known musician.
Ward 22 city councillor Josh Matlow was there to greet him, as was St. Paul’s MP Carolyn Bennett. And then there was popular musician Raine Maida.
Maida, frontman for the award-winning band Our Lady Peace, knows a thing or two about making hits, and was ready to acknowledge his friend of 15 years was the hit of the night in St. Paul’s riding, having rolled to his third electoral victory with 59.6 percent of the vote, some 18,000 ballots ahead of Progressive Conservative challenger Justine Deluce.
“I’m just an advocate for those kind of ethics in politics,” Maida said of Hoskins’ record as an MPP and cabinet minister. “I think that’s what a person like myself has always been waiting for and desiring in the political world, and to have someone like Eric enter the fray was always exciting to me.
“It’s a great day for, I would say provincial politics, but Canadian politics in general. I think the sky’s the limit for someone like him.”
