Jewels snatched from house

Police are looking for $61,000 worth of jewellery reported stolen from a Forest Hill home in September.

On Sept. 15 police were called to a residence in the Bathurst Street and Eglinton Avenue West area, in response to a break and enter.

The homeowner made the call to police, Constable Tony Vella said.

Police say the suspect or suspects forced open a rear door of the house during the daytime hours when no one was home. Vella said after investigating the scene, police canvassed the area and are working diligently to close in on a suspect.

“The forensics team arrived on the scene and they fingerprinted the home and they’re waiting back for results,” he said. “No one has been identified as of yet, but we’ll be looking at pawn shops, since most of these items will likely be sold.”

A total of six items were taken from the home, according to Vella. A men’s Concord watch, a women’s Raymond Weil watch, a pair of half-carat diamond earrings, a gold diamond necklace, a pearl necklace with a diamond clasp, and a ring were all reported stolen. Detective Constable Peglar Artinian said the most expensive piece is “just shy of $20,000.”

Artinian and Vella both urged Torontonians who have valuable items in their homes to keep a logbook of those items’ make, model and sale numbers in the event of a theft.

“It’s always better to have a list of what you have,” Artinian said, adding that photographs are also a good idea. “It makes it easier for us to track (the stolen items) down after a theft.”
