Local 416 votes today on city's offer
After delaying their vote on the new contract offered by the city, members of CUPE Local 416 are finally at the polls.
The postponement was due to final negotiations around back-to-work protocols, including how mini-dumps and litter will be cleaned up.
Should his members vote to ratify the agreement, Local president Mark Ferguson said, they will be back on the job as of Friday, before city council has a chance to approve the pact.
“We understand that this long strike has been difficult for the public, as it has for our members,” Ferguson said in a statement. “Our early return to work and quick clean up is one way we can thank Toronto residents for their patience.”
Mayor David Miller has called a special council meeting to approve the deal agreed to by CUPE Local 79 for 9:30 a.m. July 31. It is expected the agreement with Local 416 will also be voted on at that time.
Results of the vote by members of Local 416 are expected at around 7:30 p.m. today.
