Man faces four murder charges

[attach]4999[/attach]Toronto Police laid 54 charges this morning — including four for first degree murder — against a man in relation to a 2010 crime spree.

In chronological order, police detailed 11 dates they believe 27-year-old Mark Garfield Moore had been involved in shootings and homicides. Most occurences were in Scarborough, while two were in Weston and one in Leaside.

Entitled Project Summit, police had made the connections in all cases in February of this year.

Police allege Moore, who was the outstanding suspect in last summer’s armed robbery of Arax Jewellers that left an employee with gunshot wounds, is the gunman behind the murders of Jahmeel Spence and Carl Cole. They were gunned down on Greenbrae Circuit in Scarborough in September and November of 2010.

Police said they believe they’ve closed the book on the October 2010 drive-by, double murder of Courthney Facey and Mike James, in an alley near Lawrence Avenue West and Weston Road.

Moore also faces charges for discharging a firearm, weapons dangerous and mischief endangering life, as well as an attempted murder charge for another shooting on Greenbrae Circuit a couple months before Spence and Cole were killed.

In relation to the Arax Jewellers robbery, Moore is charged with robbery while armed with a firearm, conspiracy to commit an indictable offence, aggravated assault, disguise with intent, discharge firearm endanger life, use firearm to commit indictable offence and pointing a firearm.

Police arrested two other people in connection with the robbery a couple of weeks ago.

Moore faces additional charges police say are ancillary to the 11 shooting incidents.

Project Summit also led to an investigation into firearm trafficking, in which police say they arrested three other men, who have all been charged with firearm and ammunition trafficking, in conjunction with Organized Crime Enforcement.

Toronto Drug Squad also lent a hand in a trafficking investigation of a controlled substance, resulting in three people being arrested and charged.

Moore is expected to be in court later today.
