Man fatally shot outside Junction eatery

The day after a man was fatally shot outside a Junction pizza restaurant, police were reviewing video footage in the hopes of quickly identifying those responsible.

Officers responded to a call from someone who heard gunshots near Gilmour Avenue and Dundas Street West on Dec. 29 around 10 p.m.

They found Kenneth Mark, 29, suffering from traumatic injuries.

He was rushed to hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Autopsy results confirmed Mark died from a single gunshot wound to the back of the head.

The morning after, one area resident expressed concern after hearing about the incident, which occurred only blocks from her home.

“I would say it’s a pretty safe area, I’m surprised to hear that,” said Melanie Tricker, who has lived in the Junction for five years.

Tricker said the area has a sketchy history but is in the midst of cleaning up its act.

She said news of the shooting is worrisome, but “I’m not an alarmist.”

Constable Tony Vella said police are speaking with witnesses and looking for “more than one” individual.

“We know there’s traffic flow in the area around 10 p.m. as well as some pedestrian traffic, and we’re urging people that did see the incident to come forward.”

Vella also said the mixed residential and commercial area is a safe and vibrant neighbourhood.

“It’s just unfortunate that it occurred there.”
