Midtown balcony deaths called murder-suicide

NEWLYWEDS: Precious Charbonneau and Robert Giblin are seen here in a wedding photo posted on social media last month.

Two people are dead after falling from a 21st-floor balcony and police say it is the city’s latest homicide.

The call came in to police at 5:53 p.m. yesterday. Officers arriving at the scene found 33-year-old Precious Charbonneau and 43-year-old Robert Giblin suffering obvious signs of trauma behind the building at 111 Raglan Ave. northwest of Bathurst and St. Clair.

They were both pronounced dead at the scene. Police believe they fell from a balcony. Autopsy results showed Charbonneau was stabbed multiple times before falling from the balcony, and that the cause of death was multiple impact injuries consistent with a fall from a significant height.

Police confirmed the case was being treated as the city’s 55th homicide of the year. They said they believe Giblin was responsible and they are not looking for any more suspects.

According to their social media accounts, the two were married in mid-November and were expecting a child. Police confirmed Charbonneau was nine weeks pregnant.

Other recent posts showed a Christmas tree with banter about finishing the decorations, and a picture of Charbonneau and Giblin together posted to Giblin’s account early yesterday morning with the heading “happiness is.”

This is the seventh homicide in Toronto since the beginning of December, tying it with August as the deadliest month of 2015.

It is also just the second homicide in midtown this year. The first was an accidental fatal shooting in North Leaside in early November.
