Ronci's Polish Fest cancelled for 2010

Those attending the upcoming Roncesvalles Polish Festival may want to party extra hard this year because it ain’t happening in 2010.

The annual celebration has been cancelled for next year as a result of the major construction along Roncesvalles Ave., according to the local business association.

“In 2010 it will be cancelled because the streetcar tracks will be put in and the road and sidewalks will be torn up,” John Bowker, parking and beautification chair for the Roncesvalles BIA, said July 21. “But the money we save on that festival in 2010 means we can spend money on longterm capital improvements.”

The popular street festival will proceed as scheduled this fall — Sept. 19 and 20 — despite the water main and sewer construction that is taking place on Roncesvalles.

“It’s on for 2009. That’s confirmed,” said Bowker, owner of She Said Boom music and bookstore on Roncesvalles. “The contractors will have temporary patches of the road done and all equipment will be moved off to the side for that weekend.”
