Saundercook defeated in Ward 13
Bill Saundercook has gone down to defeat in Ward 13 at the hands of Sarah Doucette.
Doucette beat the incumbent taking 10,100 votes to Saundercook’s 7,893
Before he conceded defeat he said that he felt confident that he had done everything he could to win. However, when it became clear that he had lost he was clearly despondent.
In Doucette’s camp the mood was quite different.
The local activist was greeted with powerful support from supporters at Mackenzie’s on Bloor Street West. When she arrived the entire bar erupted with loud cheers, chanting “Sarah, Sarah, Sarah.”
As she walked up to give her speech, the newly elected councillor burst into tears. She said she felt “overwhelmed and honoured” when she received word of her victory.
“A couple of weeks ago we were starting to see a change in the tide,” she said. “But we never counted our chickens before they hatched.”
She said that as a councilor she has a simple plan for keeping her constituents happy.
“I will listen, I will respond, I will take action.”
